Abide With Me
This well-known, classic hymn has been artfully arranged for early advanced solo piano and creates a heart-stirring journey suitable for church use as well as special services, such as weddings and funerals. The inspiration for this arrangement came through a friend who was prompted to consider the perspective of the lyrics of the hymn. What if, rather than mankind singing to God, it was God doing the singing?
The arrangement opens with a lyrical three-note motif based on the universal, “sing-song” call of parent to child, then introduces the hymn, followed by variations of the hymn tune and concluding with the three-note motif, issuing the ever-present invitation to “Abide with Me.” Full use of the keyboard and wide dynamic range combine with fresh harmonies and lush textures to create a heart-stirring musical journey.
